Cordyceps is an insect pathogenic fungus, i.e. it develops from the bodies of dead insects. The complete development cycle is 4-6 years. Its name means 'insect in winter, plant in summer'. Of course, cultivated cordyceps do not develop in this form. In oriental medicine, its use was mainly recommended to energise a weakened body after prolonged illness.
